Precepts & Life Preservers

Faith & The Big D

Meet Christine

How is your day going?

Loaded question isn’t it?
Yep, I hear you.

It’s not an easy question to answer. Most people are expecting to hear “good” or “fine!” But all too often, we’re far from it.

Maybe on those days, you’ll join me here?

This is the place where I’ll be blogging about all the less-than-fine. Where it’s okay to join me in the gut-spilling, heart-submitting, and soul-revealing. The messy days have a place here. I have those kinds of days all the time.

But this is also a place for good news. Good news becomes fuel for my day when everything would like to propel me in much darker ways.

So I guess I’m a blogger on a mission.

I thought about using this blog for so many things. But the most important journey I’ve been guided to, right here, right now, is mood disorders and mental health. That’s right, I’m a believer navigating a little something called chronic depression on a nearly daily basis.

Learning that although my faith may be affected by my Dysthymic Disorder, my Saviour is never sidetracked by it in the slightest.

That I can cling to the Life Preserver and ride out all the storms.

And when you’re a blogger, a wife, a mom, a clutz,  a ‘Canadian’ Green Bay Packers fan, and someone with a chronic mood disorder…

Well, there’s plenty of storms to ride out, we’ll leave it at that.

And the most important thing you need to know about me?

I hate when people go through their own storms alone.

This blog can be your community. I loathe the thought that other people are out there, thinking they are unseen, and misunderstood. You are not alone.

Will you hash all this out with me? Will you be transparent with me?

Will you cling to His promises with me?

Over a year ago now, a voice said, “Hey you, wrapped up in the Life Preserver…. hows about you reach over the side and grab hold of the first hand you find struggling to stay afloat on the sea of life?”

Hey new friend?

This is my hand.

Will you take it?

The Life Preserver will get us through, together.

  1. The whole “less than fine” thing you’re doing here? I love it so much. Because our society is most comfortable with people being happy, good, and above all, fine. When you are not this way, you are encouraged to GET this way–and now. And in answer to your questions–“Will you hash all this out with me? Will you be transparent with me? Will you cling to His promises with me?”–I answer a hearty and heartfelt, “YES!” 🙂

It’s so true, Elizabeth. People mean well, and it’s so hard to get that this is not a “willpower, mind over matter” kind of issue. It’s so much more than that. Thank the Lord that He knows every inch of us, and has powerful promises for us, even on the hard, messy, days!
      So thankful for you today!!!

  2. Hi Christine! I loved your words today on Bethany’s blog as well as I love your focus on your mind wellness as it connects to your faith. I’m on a similar but slightly different path assisting those with mind, body and soul wellness. Kudos to you to share your journey, I look forward to continuing the journey with you!
