Bringing you a mini series on 7 Days of Hope and Mental Health

We’re at Tip #3 in our 7 Days of Hope and Health series!

How many times do we kind of know there must be others out there that feel the same as we do when we battle with mood disorders and chronic illness…. but when the heavy wet blanket of despair threatens to cover us completely, we only ever feel like we’re alone, like there’s no one who is going to get it.

And often we’re so low, so drained, so smothered, that we can’t bring ourselves to talk about it at length, or explain the kind of help we need in that moment.

That’s where today’s tip comes in. It’s time we proactively seek out at least one other person who gets it. Period.

They could be in your personal circle of family or friends, they could simply be someone online that you’re connected to personally. Someone you have swapped supportive words with in a depression forum.

But on your next good day, reach out. Start a dialogue about how you’re looking for a tribe that gets the struggle. People to just be there. Someone who will understand the one word text that says, “pray now” or “need help”. Someone who will totally relate to the valley you just barely made it through. Who will know that sometimes there’s nothing anyone can do except be available. To just be reachable.

You’ll be amazed at how it will even cause you to respond to signs of symptoms coming at you… to know that someone else is navigating it too.

And hey, I wouldn’t be doing my job right if I don’t emphasize that you always have Someone with you, closer, the Bible says, than a brother. Someone not affected by how you feel but only driven by how much you’re loved. And that even on days you can’t feel Him there, the Good Father, the Prince of Peace, the Creator King, is as close as the mention of His name.

That’s close. You can know you’re not alone. The Life Preserver will hold onto you, and keep you from drowning in the seas of moods and illness and exhaustion and hopelessness.

For where He is, there IS hope. Where the Savior is, there IS rescue.

And if anyone understands battles for health and restoration, He does.

“On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased.” Psalm 138:3

So let’s move into this season being real with one other person who will get you, get the battle, and get when it’s time to be leaned on.
